SEE & DO

You will never be short of things to do during your stay here. The most obvious thing to do during your break is to explore the magnificent countryside and epic Jurassic Coast. However, our guide below to plan your stay and make the most of everything on offer in this beautiful, historic and fun part of the world.

Nature and Garden Lovers

Enjoy our 8 acres of unspoilt wilderness to explore on site. Take a picnic down to the lake (see right) and muck around, find beasts, build camps soak in the scenery and enjoy the earth. Who needs to go out!?

  • The Donkey Sanctuary - always a kids trail to enjoy

  • Axe Valley Wildlife park – a favourite for young tots – small beasts for small people

  • Dig up a dino – we know some of the best places

  • Ferne Animal Sanctuary  - our local animal rescue heroes 

Beach Lovers

​So many beaches to choose from. Sandy and pebbly with fossils galore (if you know how to look). You won't cover them all in one stay!

  • Lyme Regis – Sand, Sea, great food, & drink choices with views, shopping, nightlife!

  • Branscombe – the UKs longest thatched village. And two excellent pubs.

  • Charmouth – some sand amongst the fossil rich pebbles, great swimming, and doesn’t get too crowded. Take cash for parking.

  • Beer - Fishing trips, fresh fish and boat hire

  • Seaton and Seaton Hole - Seaton Hole our secret favourite, especially in the mornings 

  • West Bay - Whole host of activities here and in nearby Bridport  

  • Exmouth - Huge sandy beach, cinema, bowling, eats.

Foodies 

You won't find it difficult to unearth a whole host of great restaurants, bars and delis in the local area, but here are a few of our favourites that have been tried and tested.

  • Millers Farm Shop and deli (3 miles)

  • River Cottage has a range of events where you can book to have a course or meal (3 miles)

  • The Tytherleigh Arms – amazing gastro food (2m)

  • The Cotley Arms – rustic gastro pub (3m)

  • The Masons Arms at Branscombe - really decent food in a gorgeous old thatched pub near the sea.

  • The Pig at Combe - posh gastro food (7m)

  • The Oyster House - our very own Michelin Man  - Mark Hix - lives nearby (7m)

  • The Pilot Boat – family friendly bar dining (7m)

  • Hive Beach Cafe, The Watchhouse  – worth a visit on your journey. Delicious!

  • The New Inn – Eype for informal eats (part of potential circular walk from Seatown)

  • The Anchor Inn Seatown (gets busy on nice / peak days ) on the beach. Worth popping in for a pint even if you can’t get a table.

Shopping

We are tucked away and feel remote – but the nearest town is just 2 miles away so we are close by to transport, amenities and shops should you need to stock up. 

​

The following supermarkets deliver locally should you wish to order your groceries in (which we are happy to take delivery of for you). Do plan ahead however as slots get booked up. Give them our home phone and directions in case they need help.

  • Sainsbury's

  • Waitrose

Amazon are also regulars in case you want to order any holiday goodies or surprises.
 

Better still, why not try our local farm shops and some wonderful produce.

  • Tytherleigh Farm Shop - is just up the road. They deliver once a week.

  • Millers Farm Shop (3 miles away) - has an extra-ordinary range of local deliciousness on offer, including:  wines, ciders and fish. It is well worth a trip if you would like to treat yourself.

Cyclists in the Mountains

Sporty Types

Walk, Cycle, Ride. Enjoy a myriad of trails & paths through the East Devon wilds. Horses & bikes can be hired locally.  

​

Serious Cyclists – you’ll be in seventh heaven filling your lungs with the freshest air, straight off the Atlantic. Gorgeous rides on ridiculously quiet roads, and some great hill climbs to gobble up. Lockable bike storage (at your own risk) under your balcony at garden level.

​

Various water sport activities are on offer along the coast with most available at nearby Lyme Regis, these include mackerel fishing, paddle boarding,  sea kayaking, sailing, power boat rides.

 

Get in the swing of things and enjoy a game of golf (with over 6 courses nearby for all standards).

Foot Golf is great fun at Lyme.
